Government says budget for 2025/2026 fiscal year does not signal contraction
The government says the budget for the 2025/2026 fiscal year which starts next month, does not signal a contraction.
Finance Minister Fayval Williams tabled the $1.3 trillion dollar budget in the House of Representatives, yesterday.
In a statement today, the finance ministry said there have been reports in other media suggesting that the budget signals a “contraction.”
It said these reports are misleading.
Meantime, Prime Minister Andrew Holness also addressed the matter during the handing over of a house under the new social housing programme in Cave Valley St. Ann today.
He said the budget tabled yesterday is very strong.
Mr. Holness said this means Jamaica’s total debt is decreasing.
