Government reassures public that Cyber Security Act will provide robust legal foundation for digital eco-system

The government has sought to reassure that the forthcoming National Cyber Security Act will provide a robust legal foundation to govern the country’s digital ecosystem.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Ambassador Alison Stone Roofe gave the assurance while speaking at the Cyber Smart Conference, on Tuesday.

She pointed out that beyond legislation, Jamaica continues to build resilience through the national cyber security strategy.

Ambassador Stone Roofe noted that everyone is a potential target in an increasingly digital world, citing recent attacks that affected financial institutions and medical facilities.

The permanent secretary said cyber security is not just about technology, it’s also about empowering people by investing in education, awareness and capacity.

The 2 day biennial conference, which ended on Wednesday, was held under the theme: “Stay safe in cyberspace”, and was aimed at highlighting the dangers that exist online, as well as offering practical solutions for protecting organizations and individuals.
