Government launches disaster fund website for Hurricane Beryl information and donations
Government has created a disaster fund website that will serve as a centralized source of information on Hurricane Beryl and a portal where donations can be made to assist relief efforts.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement this afternoon while speaking at the launch of NCB’s Building A Better Jamaica Fund.
He said the website will allow for the relief efforts to be coordinated.
Persons, both locally and overseas can make donations via the website.
Mr. Holness said the portal will ensure that donations are centralized and put to good use.
Persons can also donate through bank transfers directly to ODPEM.
Meanwhile, Mr. Holness is warning Jamaicans that sustainable recovery from the effects of Hurricane Beryl will not be quick.
The Prime Minister’s statement follows calls from stakeholders, including the Opposition for the relief efforts to be ramped up across the country.
Speaking at the launch of NCB’s Building A Better Jamaica Fund, which is aiming to raise some $300 million for the relief effort, Mr. Holness noted that the recovery effort cannot be rushed.
He said the government has a long term and well laid plan for the country’s recovery.
