The Government is in the process of identifying lands to construct a new public hospital in Portland.
Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton gave the update at the opening of the Katus Blakey Dental Clinic yesterday.
He noted that the Southern Coastal Highway has increased access to the parish and this in turn, increases the demand for health services to citizens.
Dr. Tufton noted that the Port Antonio hospital can no longer serve the public.
Dr. Tufton said the North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA) is continuing discussions with the Port Authority of Jamaica, the National Land Agency (NLA and the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) regarding location options for the new hospital.
