The Government and the Opposition have condemned a gun attack on a Policeman’s Family which resulted in the death of his spouse.
The cop and his 5-year-old son have been hospitalized following the incident in Reading St. James Saturday evening.
Police are assuring the public that a thorough and swift investigation will be conducted, utilizing all available resources to bring the perpetrators to justice.
People with information are being urged to come forward and assist the investigation.
Meantime, National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang said the violent ambush on a member of the JCF left the cop and his young son critically wounded.
He stated that this deliberate assault on a serving Officer and his family is a grave and unacceptable act that strikes at the heart of law and order.
According to him, it represents not only an attack on an individual family, but also on the men and women who put themselves in harm’s way daily to serve and protect Jamaica.
Dr. Chang stated that such acts will not be allowed to go unanswered.
He said the Ministry is fully supporting the ongoing investigation and is committed to ensuring that those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice.
He also called on those with information to assist the authorities in swiftly advancing this case.
Dr. Chang said acts of violence against Law Enforcement Officers and their families will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on the perpetrators.
In the meantime, Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Peter Bunting said the assault is a tragic reminder of the unrelenting violence plaguing Jamaica.
Mr. Bunting also took issue with the growing trend of persons recording and sharing graphic images and videos of crime scenes online.
