Government allocates $22M to each constituency for national clean up activities
The government is allocating $22 million to each constituency to effect national clean up activities, over the next few months.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness told Parliament today that the funds should be used for road repair, drain cleaning, de-bushing and garbage removal.
Members of Parliament are given guidelines on how the funds are to be allotted for each type of activity, but they also have flexibility on reallocating funds if necessary.
The National Clean Up Programme comes in the wake of recent weather events, including Tropical Storm Rafael, which caused significant damage to infrastructure.
Mr. Holness said the activities will be done through the National Works Agency and the National Solid Waste Management Authority.
He stressed that the funds must be used by next year February.
