Golding says PNP will not support decision to take away citizens’ right to access bail
Opposition Leader Mark Golding says his party will not support the government’s decision to take away citizens’ right to access bail.
Mr. Golding’s statement follows a comment by Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs Marlene Malahoo Forte, who said under new provisions in the new Bail Act, persons on a gun or murder charge would not be allowed to be at large.
The minister’s comments have sparked debate about possible infringement on an accused persons right to bail.
Responding to the statements, Mr. Golding said he is worried about how the Jamaica Labour Party Administration is approaching constitutional reform in the country.
He was speaking at a PNP Divisional Conference at the weekend.
