Golding hits back at PM Holness for comments about the PNP’s proposed $1B housing grant initiative
Opposition Leader Mark Golding has hit back at Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness for comments made about the People’s National Party (PNP)’s proposed 1 billion dollar housing grant initiative.
Through the initiative, the PNP seeks to allocate $1 billion each year, through the National Housing Trust (NHT) to assist young, first-time home buyers with their deposit payments.
At a recent function, Prime Minister Dr. Holness questioned the plan’s effectiveness.
In a response last evening, Mr. Golding criticized Dr. Holness for not fulfilling housing-related promises he made during the 2020 election campaign.
He pointed out that Dr. Holness promised 70,000 homes by 2025.
However, according to Mr. Golding, only a little over 14,000 homes have been delivered so far, with nearly 8,000 completed in the current five-year term.
Mr. Golding also claimed that the prime minister has failed to deliver on his promises to provide homes for young people and public sector workers.
In defense of the PNP’s $1 billion housing fund, Mr. Golding emphasized that his party has a real and practical affordable housing plan.
