Geology expert says last evening’s quake was an aftershock of one in October last year, and more aftershocks are likely
Professor of Sedimentary Geology at the University of the West Indies, Professor Simon Mitchell says there could be aftershocks, following last evening’s 4.2 magnitude earthquake which rocked sections of the island.
The epicentre of the quake was located approximately 5km south of Hope Bay in Portland.
It was felt in Kingston and St. Andrew and St. Thomas.
Residents of St. Elizabeth, St. Catherine and St. Ann also reported that they felt the tremor.
Commenting on the matter, Professor Mitchell said the quake was an after-shock of another which was felt in October last year.
He said more after shocks are likely.
The professor is urging Jamaicans to be alert.
