Construction of Garvey museum could get underway this year
The government has expressed hope that construction of the Marcus Garvey Museum, at the site of his childhood home in St. Ann, will begin this year.
The project has been in limbo for several years as the government continues to negotiate with one remaining occupant of the property.
Two of the 3 sisters, who lived on the land, have since been given new homes and relocated.
However, the third had maintained that she is not satisfied with the government’s offer.
Culture Minister Olivia Grange said negotiations with the third sister, are almost complete.
The government wants to start the museum, as part of the Jamaica 60 Legacy Programme.
