Garnet Silk Legacy Day: Foundation hosts funday in reggae icon’s memory
On April 26, The Garnet Silk Foundation will celebrate the life and legacy of the late reggae icon by giving back to residents in his parish.
Slated Brooks Park, Manchester, the free all-day event dubbed The Garnet Silk Legacy Funday, aims to provide educational supplies and care packages, for Manchester students with some students being assisted with fees for external examinations.
Garnet Silk’s daughter, Arrayma Smith, says the event is a tribute to her father’s remarkable work and the profound impact his music had on people worldwide.
Known for hits like, Zion in a Vision, Hello Mamma Africa, Oh Me Oh My and numerous others, Garnet Silk, born Garnet Damion Smith, would have celebrated his 59th birthday yesterday, April 2. He was on the verge of international stardom, when his career was cut short by his tragic death in 1994.
