Freedom Imaginaries calls on Gov’t to provide proper accommodation for Haitians who landed in Portland yesterday
International human rights lawyer and founder of Freedom Imaginaries, Malene Alleyne, has called on the Government to provide proper accommodation for the group of Haitians who landed in Portland yesterday.
It has been reported that residents saw the vessel washed ashore at around 6:00 AM and alerted the authorities.
The group consisted of men, women and children, including a toddler.
Speaking to IRIE FM News last evening, Ms. Alleyne said Jamaica should observe international laws by providing the Haitians with humane treatment.
She said if the Haitians are sent back, it would signify a crisis not just in Haiti but in Jamaica.
She noted that Jamaica would be failing to meet its obligation under international law.
