Freedom Imaginaires raises concern over babies as young as 10 months, among illegal Haitian migrants in poor police lock-ups
Attorney-at-Law and Founder of Freedom Imaginaires, Malene Alleyne has expressed concern that babies as young as 10 months old are among illegal Haitian migrants being held in deplorable conditions in police lock-ups.
Ms. Alleyne made the revelation during a press conference on Haitian migrants and asylum seekers in Jamaica this morning.
The briefing follows the repatriation of several Haitian migrants last week.
Other repatriation exercises were conducted prior to that.
Ms. Alleyne said over 170 Haitian migrants have been expelled without due process since July last year.
She said many Haitian migrants, including babies and pregnant women, are held in unsanitary environments.
She reiterated that the treatment meted out to Haitian migrants is unlawful.
