Fowler-Nembhard closes in on eight scoring title as Jamaican stars shine in Round 12 of Super Netball
Star Sunshine Girls shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard continues to etch her name in the Suncorp Super Netball League record books, strengthening her claim for a record-extending eighth leading goal-scorer award following a dominant display in Round 12 action.
The towering goal-shooter was in vintage form over the weekend, netting a game-high 49 goals from 51 attempts to power former champions West Coast Fever to a commanding 69-54 win away to the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
Despite missing the first two games of the season, Fowler-Nembhard has surged to 600 goals, now sitting just one goal behind league leader Grace Nweke of the NSW Swifts in the scoring race.
Fowler-Nembhard’s brilliance also helped Fever stretch their impressive unbeaten run to 10 consecutive games, the longest in the league this season. The result pushes them to the top of the standings with 40 points, four clear of second-placed New South Wales (36 points).
Jamaican Power in the Circle
The influence of the Sunshine Girls remains strong across the league, especially in the shooting circle. Shimona Jok of the Melbourne Mavericks remains third in scoring with 558 goals, while Romelda Aiken-George of the Adelaide Thunderbirds follows closely in fourth with 489 goals. Aiken-George also ranks second in offensive rebounds with 62, continuing to be a key threat on the boards.
Defensive Dominance from the Caribbean
On the defensive end, Latanya Wilson of the Thunderbirds is having a standout season. The agile defender is the only player leading two major defensive stats, sitting atop the league with 79 deflections and 29 intercepts, underlining her elite status on court.

Her compatriot Kadie-Ann Dehaney, of the West Coast Fever, has made her mark defensively as well, ranking 4th in deflections with 53, contributing significantly to Fever’s formidable form.
