Four shot during attempted robbery in Portmore; police recover getaway vehicles
A civilian and three security guards were shot and wounded in a brazen attack by gunmen, on a Beryllium security team in Braeton, Portmore, St. Catherine this afternoon (March 19).
Police report that around 12:40 PM, the security guards were servicing an Automated Teller Machine (ATM), when they were pounced upon by armed men who attempted to rob them.
It’s reported that a shoot-out ensued during which, the three guards and the civilian were shot. The gunmen then fled the scene.
The wounded guards and the civilian were taken to hospital.
Head of the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay said the victims were in stable condition.
She said moments later, two vehicles which were reportedly used by the gunmen to leave the scene, were found abandoned in the Caymanas Bay area in the parish.
SSP Lindsay said police and military were trying to locate the perpetrators.
