Former reggae boyz coach John Barnes chides BBC for suspending Gary Lineker

Former reggae boyz coach John Barnes has weighed in on the stand-off between the BBC and match of the day presenter Gary Lineker who was taken off air for failing to abide by company policy as it relates to his use of social media.

Lineker, who is the highest paid employee at the BBC, found himself at the center of a political storm last week, after comparing the language used to launch a new government asylum policy with that of Nazi Germany in the 1930’s.

He was subsequently taken off air…..which led to a huge backlash against the BBC with pundits and commentators refusing to work as a sign of solidarity.

According to Barnes the impartiality rules used by the BBC  to punish Linker were hypocritical.

The former Liverpool striker also questioned the language used to describe refugees from Iraq and Syria as opposed to those from Ukraine.

The Jamaican-born Barnes…..who represented England internationally….coached the Reggae Boyz between 2008 and 2009 where he amassed 6 wins and 3 draws in 9 games which includes winning the Caribbean cup.

In the meantime,  it has now been announced by the BBC that Lineker will be returning to match of the day duties this coming weekend.
