Former JCF member fatally shot by police yesterday
A former member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force was fatally shot by the police during an alleged confrontation in St. Andrew, yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Mark Raby of Lincoln Road, Kingston.
The incident occurred at about 6:20 PM along Camp Road.
Reports are that Raby was travelling in a taxi along along Marescaux road when the driver picked up another passenger.
Further reports are that an argument developed between Raby and the driver.
Raby allegedly pointed a firearm at the driver, who stopped the vehicle and sought the assistance of officers in the vicinity.
The police responded and a shoot out ensued, during which Raby reportedly took over the car and drove off.
The taxi later crashed into a utility post and a tree on Camp Road.
When the police approached the vehicle, Raby allegedly opened gunfire at them and the fire was returned.
Raby was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A firearm affixed with a magazine containing nine 9 millimetre cartridges was reportedly recovered.
The police say Raby had been dismissed from the force, before completing his probationary period, due to misconduct.
