Former Government Senator and former CEO of Gracekennedy Group Don Wehby has died
Former Government Senator and former Chief Executive Officer of the Gracekennedy Group Don Wehby has died.
Mr. Wehby who had been ailing for some time, passed away last night at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding are among those who have paid tribute to Mr. Wheby.
In a release this morning, the Prime Minister said Don Wehby’s career was marked by distinguished service to Jamaica in both the public and private sectors.
He said under Wehby’s transformative leadership, Gracekennedy evolved into one of the Caribbean’s most dynamic conglomerates with a global footprint.
The Prime Minister said Mr. Wehby was instrumental in tripling the company’s revenue and cementing its role as a Jamaican success story.
Dr. Holness said Mr. Wehby was known not just for his professional excellence but for his character, kind, gracious, deeply principled, and unwavering commitment to Jamaica’s future.
He said his passing is a tremendous loss for his loving family, for the colleagues and communities he uplifted, and for the nation he so passionately served.
Opposition Leader Mark Golding said Don Wehby’s contributions to public policy and private enterprise have played a meaningful part in Jamaica’s recent development story.
He said his passing represents the ending of a chapter of national service.
Mr. Golding said Mr. Wehby was a personal friend, who he got to know well during the years he served as a director on the board of Gracekennedy Limited and as their legal counsel in various transactions.
The Opposition Leader expressed heartfelt condolences to his wife Hillary, their children and extended family, and the entire Gracekennedy family.
Mr. Wehby was inducted into the private sector organization of Jamaica hall of fame in 2025 and was awarded the order of distinction commander class in 2017 and the order of Jamaica in 2024.
