Former firefighter back to safety after climbing atop HWT Transport Centre

A former firefighter who climbed on top of the Half Way Tree Transport Centre in St. Andrew, this afternoon has disembarked safely.

The man who mounted the facility at about 3 pm, climbed down shortly after 5 pm, following the intervention of firefighters and police.

Mental health personnel from the Kingston Public Hospital were also deployed to the scene.

Scores of people who had gathered outside the centre urging him to climb down, cheered as he got off the roof safely.

Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade Stewart Beckford told Irie FM News that the man resigned from the brigade last year.

He is now in police custody.
