Former councillor for Above Rocks Division Neil Powell wins JLP selection exercise in St. Catherine North Central
Former councillor for the Above Rocks Division, Neil Powell could represent the Jamaica Labour Party in St. Catherine North Central in the next General Election.
This was after Mr. Powell won a selection exercise against Paul Brown at the Tulloch Primary School in the parish yesterday.
According to the preliminary count, Powell received 73 of the votes while Brown claimed 52 votes.
Powell’s representation in the St. Catherine North Central Constituency means he could be challenging four-term Member of Parliament, Natalie Neita Garvey of the People’s National Party.
Speaking with IRIE FM news this morning, Mr. Powell said he is pleased with the results of yesterday’s selection exercise, as he believes an experienced candidate should challenge the sitting MP.
He noted that he is focused on claiming victory for the JLP in the next general polls.
Mr. Powell, who lost the Above Rocks Division by 11 votes in the February 26 Local Government Elections last year said this loss does not mean he cannot successfully challenge the Constituency seat.
