Former Ambassador to U.S. Audrey Marks sworn in as Government senator

Jamaica’s former Ambassador to the United States (U.S.) Audrey Marks was sworn in to the Upper House this morning.

Her appointment to the Senate was announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday afternoon.

It was also announced that former Police Commissioner, Major General Antony Anderson will be Jamaica’s next ambassador to the U.S.

Mr. Holness said Ms. Marks’ extensive experience in strengthening bilateral relations between Jamaica and the U.S. and advocating for Jamaica’s interests would be invaluable in her new role in national policy and legislative development.

During this morning’s sitting of the Senate, Ms. Marks took the oath of allegiance.

Addressing the Senate for the first time, Senator Marks expressed her appreciation for being appointed to serve.

Noting Jamaica’s continued quest to achieve growth, the new senator pledged to use her past experiences to contribute to that mission.

She also said she hopes to collaborate with Opposition senators to move Jamaica forward.
