Foreign Affairs Ministry reports reduction in number of Jamaicans trying to enter USA illegally
Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith has indicated a reduction in the number of Jamaicans transiting Central America seeking to enter the United States illegally.
Responding to questions at a post cabinet press briefing yesterday, Mrs. Johnson Smith noted that Jamaica continues to engage with its international partners to monitor the movement of citizens.
She explained that the reduction may be attributed to recent changes in control mechanisms.
Mrs. Johnson Smith noted that more Jamaicans have become aware of the negative implications associated with illegally entering the US.
She added that luckily countries such as Mexico have not imposed travel restrictions on Jamaica.
