FNID says its 92% conviction rate an indication that those who seek to carry out trafficking activities will be caught
The Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (F-NID) says its 92 per cent conviction rate is an indication that those who seek to carry out trafficking activities will be caught.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, F-NID Director, Superintendent Patrae Rowe, noted that the Division has made 89 arrests and charged 84 people since the start of the year.
Superintendent Rowe warned perpetrators that an air-tight case will be built against them when they are caught or when their activities are intercepted.
The F-NID Director noted that the authorities’ capabilities have also been strengthened due to significant investments in maritime assets.
This, he said, has led to several coastal interceptions and seizures.
Three Colombian nationals were officially charged this week and are to face the court on April 7, over what police describe as the largest single cocaine seizure in Jamaica’s recorded history.
The seizure, valued at approximately J$1.65 billion, follows a coastal interception on Saturday, March 21.
Superintendent Rowe said that F-NID is taking the necessary steps to disrupt the movement of drugs and guns, including collaborating with other branches within the security forces.
He said the heightened investments and consistent partnerships will result in more seizures.
