Five new ambulances to be added to fleet of police vehicles in coming weeks

Five new ambulances are expected to be added to the fleet of police vehicles in the coming weeks, to assist with the quick response for police officers who are wounded or injured, on the job.

National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang made the disclosure during a tour of the Gregory Park police post in Portmore, St. Catherine, on Wednesday.

In recent times, the central committee of the Jamaica Police Federation has been lobbying for renewed protocols at hospitals to cater to the needs of police officers, who are wounded in the line of duty, and require medical care.

In response, Dr Chang noted that policy directives are in place at hospitals for treatment of police, and further discussions are being held with the health ministry.

Dr. Chang said the intention is to have wounded or injured cops better access to priority treatment.
