Firefighter protests atop HWT Transport Centre
A male firefighter this morning climbed to the top of the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre in St. Andrew, to register his discontent over the alleged poor treatment of firefighters in the country.
The man, who identified himself, as Sergeant Leo Bennett, in a video circulating on social media, said he was advocating for firefighters, whose welfare have not been a priority.
Bennett spent over an hour atop the transport centre.
President of the union which represents firefighters – the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers (JALGO) – Helene Davis Whyte said Sergeant Bennett has been on suspension, for previous actions.
Mrs. Davis-Whyte told IRIE FM News, that JALGO has always observed the appropriate protocols, in dealing with grievances.
She noted that there are very few instances, in which union representation and agitation have not been fruitful.
