Financial analyst Dennis Chung says Education Minister Fayval Williams would be a suitable replacement for Dr. Nigel Clarke as finance minister

Financial analyst Dennis Chung believes Education Minister Fayval Williams would be a suitable replacement for Dr. Nigel Clarke as finance minister.

Dr. Clarke will be leaving the ministry to become the Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

His appointment at the IMF takes effect on October 31.

Following the announcement this morning, there has been public discourse about the future of the finance ministry and questions about who will replace Dr. Clarke.

The government said it has identified successors to Dr. Clarke in both his ministerial and parliamentary responsibilities.

It assured that there will be smooth transitions in both capacities and promised further updates.

Speaking with IRIE FM News this afternoon, Mr. Chung said Mrs. Williams, who served as finance minister before is likely to return to her previous post.

He said Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator Aubyn Hill is also a good candidate.

Mr. Chung noted that there are also qualified non-parliamentarians who could take up the post.

He said the government should make the announcement of the replacement as soon as possible.
