The Finance Ministry and the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, JCTU have reached agreement on items carried over from the implementation of the restructured compensation system for public sector workers.

The signing of the heads of agreement took place yesterday.

It comes ahead of Dr. Nigel Clarke’s departure from the Ministry to take up a post at the International Monetary Fund, IMF, next month.

Unions representing public sector workers had indicated that they wanted the talks to be completed prior to the minister’s departure.

In a statement today, Dr. Clarke said the signing marks a significant milestone in the journey embarked upon 7 years ago, when unions and the government agreed to the compensation restructuring.

Meantime, the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, JCTU, says it is satisfied with the agreement reached on items carried over from the implementation of the restructured compensation system.

The Finance Ministry and the JCTU concluded the agreement yesterday.

The JCTU, represents the majority of one hundred thousand public sector workers.

Speaking with Irie FM News, today, JCTU President St. Patrice Ennis said compromises were made, but the union is satisfied with the outcome.
