Finance Minister says work is underway to construct new courthouses
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke says work is underway to construct new court houses across the island.
His statement is in response to comments by Chief Justice Bryan Sykes who noted that a number of the island’s courts are in a deplorable condition.
According to Justice Sykes, the solution is not just rehabilitation and maintenance, but the establishment of new courthouses.
He also cited financial concerns.
In response, Dr. Clarke assured that the government will allocate funds for capital projects, such as, for new courthouses.
He added that work is already being undertaken on what he calls regional court complexes in 4 parishes.
Dr. Clarke was speaking in parliament on Tuesday.
