Finance Minister says gov’t is consciously making moves to keep the society cohesive

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke says the government is consciously making moves to maintain the cohesion of society.

He says the administration is ensuring the benefits from the unprecedented period of economic stability are shared with all Jamaicans.

Dr. Clarke cites as examples that the government is building or upgrading four hospitals at the same time, has acquired buses for the public transport sector without borrowing and bought new garbage trucks.

He also notes the reverse income tax credit, launched this week, which will ensure those at the lower end of the income spectrum benefit.

He says a strategy that is only focused on increasing income, will disappoint.

This, as income would have increased dramatically beyond the ability to afford it, to solve people’s problems.
