FID secures $825,000 in forfeiture from Trelawny man accused of identity fraud

The Financial Investigations Division, FID has secured eight hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars ($825,000) in forfeiture from a Trelawny man, accused of involvement in identity fraud.

The order was made against 34-year-old Tailor, Jermaine Simpson, of Kettering in Duncans.

This follows a ruling on Monday by Senior Parish Judge, Vaughn Facey.

Simpson was arrested in September 2022, after a joint police military operation was conducted at his residence.

Officers reportedly seized 2 Apple I-phones, which contained names and addresses of persons residing overseas.

Cash amounting to $825,000 was also seized.

Simpson was later charged with knowingly possessing identity information with intent to use it, contrary to the law reform fraudulent transactions special provisions act.

Reacting to the forfeiture ruling, FID Director of Legal Services, Courtney Smith said the result of the case underscores the agency’s commitment to combat financial crimes, particularly those that target vulnerable victims both locally and overseas.
