The nation’s farmers are being urged to re-purpose their fields for sugar cane production as the industry is on the cusp of renewed growth and profitability.

Agriculture Minister, Floyd Green, who toured the Frome sugar factory in Westmoreland on Wednesday said operator, Pan Caribbean Sugar Company Limited has raised its efficiency to make cane production a gainful endeavour.

Mr. Green said farmers should seek to invest.

Mr. Green noted that the Ministry has been partnering with factory operators to improve the industry’s growth – a major focus this year.

He added that farmers should not be deterred by this year’s crop reap, as last year’s severe weather conditions would have impacted the output.
