A farmer was shot dead near the Emerald Estate Housing Scheme in St. Mary, last evening.

Dead is 45-year-old Keyon Jones of Woodside District, Pear Tree Grove, in the parish.

Police say at about 7:19pm, Jones travelled to the vicinity of the housing scheme to meet with a man.

When Jones arrived at the location, he was pounced upon by gunmen who opened fire hitting him multiple times.

Jones was pronounced dead at hospital.
