The Electoral Office of Jamaica, EOJ says it is prepared to receive nominations of candidates for the upcoming general election and local government by-elections.

Nominations will be done at designated centres across the 63 constituencies, on Monday, August 18. 

Nomination of candidates for the general election will take place from 10:00am to 2:00pm while nominations for the by-elections will be accepted between 12 noon and 2:00pm.

Any person wishing to register as a candidate for the general election is required to complete the nomination form signed by ten or more electors registered to vote in the constituency.

A 15 thousand dollar nomination fee must also be paid. 

Meanwhile, any person wishing to register as a candidate for the by-election must complete the nomination form signed by  six or more electors qualified to vote in the  division for which the election is to be held.

A 3 thousand dollar nomination fee must be paid. 

Following nomination day, the EOJ will advance preparations for the conduct of the elections on September 3.
