Energy Minister calls out JPS for missing and pushing back several power restoration deadlines

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has come under fire from Energy Minister Daryl Vaz for missing and pushing back several deadlines for the restoration of electricity.

Speaking in Parliament this afternoon, Mr. Vaz cited several issues with the power company’s response.

He noted that he is dissatisfied with JPS’ efforts.

This, as nearly three weeks after the passage of Hurricane Beryl, approximately 19,000 customers outside of St. Elizabeth remain without power.

Mr. Vaz noted that he was not satisfied with the answers given to him at the last meeting with JPS management on Saturday.

As a result, he has taken several steps, including seeking the intervention of the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) and meeting with government members on JPS’ board.
