Emergency surgeries continue at KPH despite challenges with air conditioning system; filters needed for repairs to be flown in next week

While elective surgeries have been scaled down at the Kingston Public Hospital, emergency surgeries continue amidst ongoing challenges with the air conditioning system.

Permanent Secretary in the Health and Wellness Ministry, Errol Greene, gave the update at this morning’s sitting of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Mr. Green noted that two of the four main operating theatres at the hospital have been affected by the breakdown of the air conditioning unit.

He added that while current repairs have been conducted at a satisfactory level, plans are being made to have the filters needed for better upgrades airfreighted into the country.

Those filters should arrive sometime next week.

Mr. Greene said the Accident and Emergency Department, which has also been affected, will require extensive repairs.
