Electricity restoration to be accelerated, with the arrival of support personnel from the region this weekend

The pace of electricity restoration across the island is expected to be accelerated in the coming days, with the arrival of support personnel from the region.

In an update this morning, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) said linemen from utility companies in Belize, Cayman, Guyana and Bermuda will begin arriving this weekend.

The company said the linemen will initially be assigned to support restoration work in St. Elizabeth, the parish that was most badly affected by Hurricane Beryl.

Meantime, the company noted that it is finalizing details of the support that energy companies in the region will provide for its Hurricane Beryl restoration efforts.

It said discussions are ongoing with other utility companies, which will confirm the availability of their teams by early next week.

JPS added that the hurricane restoration support to Jamaica is being provided through a mutual assistance programme managed by the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC), of which it is a member.
