Election observer group says it hopes day will not be marred by voter intimidation or violence
With voting set to get underway in the Local Government polls this morning, election observer group, Citizens Action for free and Fair Election, (Caffe), says it hopes the day will not be marred by voter intimidation or violence.
Electors have from 7 am to 5 pm to cast their ballots at the designated polling stations.
Speaking with Irie Fm News, Caffe Chairperson Grace Baston says Jamaicans should be allowed to exercise their right to vote safely in a free and fair election.
She stresses the importance of people showing up at the polls, as she says a low voter turnout does not auger well for the country’s democracy.
Caffe will have over 400 volunteers observing today’s election.
They have been deployed to polling stations islandwide to monitor the quality and conduct of the election.
