Efforts being made to transport severely burnt BK Supervisor to US for treatment

Efforts are being made to have a Burger King supervisor who was severely burnt during the explosion at the New Kingston location on Wednesday, flown to the United States for treatment.

Kerry-Ann Folkes was the only female on duty at the time of the incident which left six workers with varying degrees of burns.

Four workers have been treated and released from hospital.

Another employee has been transferred from the Kingston Public Hospital to the University Hospital of the West Indies for further treatment.

However, Kerry-Ann’s family says she requires more specialized treatment.

They are working with the Sanmerna Foundation to make this possible.

Project Manager at Sanmerna, Stephen Josephs says arrangements have been made with a burn facility in the US.

Meanwhile, Kerry-Ann’s sibling Renay Folkes-Johnson notes that her sister is in extreme pain from the injuries sustained in the explosion and will require more advanced care.

She says her family is not confident that Kerry-Ann will receive the best treatment, if she remains in Jamaica.

Ms. Folkes Johnson is pleading for support from anyone who can assist to have her sister transferred to the hospital in the United States.

Persons can donate to the family through the National Commercial Bank.

Meanwhile, the operator of Burger King, Restaurant Associates Limited, says its representatives are in constant communication with the medical teams attending to the employees injured in the explosion at the New Kingston Branch, on Wednesday.

This is to ensure that the workers get the highest level of care.

The company says it is prepared to facilitate any necessary medical transfers should any of the victims require advanced treatment, locally or internationally.

Four of the injured workers have been treated and released, one is being treated at the University Hospital of the West Indies, while another remains at the Kingston Public Hospital.

Relatives of injured supervisor, Kerry-ann Folkes, want to have her transferred from KPH to a facility in the United States.

Restaurant Associates’ Chief Executive Officer, Lisa Lake, says the company is awaiting the necessary documents to facilitate the safe transfer of Ms. Folkes.

The company adds that it recognizes that the impact of the unfortunate incident is not limited to physical injuries.

As such, it says it is committed to addressing the emotional well-being of the affected employees.

In this regard, it has arranged professional counselling services for those directly involved in the incident, as well as for any staff member who may have been emotionally impacted.

It says it continues to collaborate with the relevant authorities and service providers to investigate the matter and implement additional measures necessary to prevent such incidents in the future.
