The Board of the Whitfield Primary and Infant School in Kingston says the Education Ministry will assist in appointing an acting principal as soon as possible to ensure that the institution continues to function.

This is as principal Karen Powell died after collapsing on the school grounds yesterday.

Board Chair, John Mahfood described Ms. Powell as a dedicated principal who contributed greatly to the school’s improvement, especially in the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations.

Mr. Mahfood said she will be greatly missed.

He noted that for now, administrators are focused on providing psychosocial support to students and staff during this period of mourning.
