Education Ministry seeking to have uniformed groups in institutions as part of efforts to stem violence in schools
Education Minister, Fayval Williams says the Ministry is seeking to have uniformed groups in every educational institution, as part of efforts to stem violence in schools.
She believes the groups will help students to interact better and instil discipline.
There have been violent incidents in schools over the years, some of which have ended in death or injury to students.
Ms Williams indicates that only 327 of the nearly one thousand schools have at least one uniformed group, such as the Boys or Girls Brigade, Jamaica Combined Cadet Force, Pathfinders and Girl Guides.
The Education Minister states that she will actively spread awareness about the groups.
She urges students in the groups to recruit others, adding that parents have a role to play.
She is calling on individuals and Corporate Jamaica to come on board by sponsoring uniforms for students, who will become a part of the groups.
The Education Minister was speaking at the Boys’ Brigade Jamaica Annual Founder’s Day church service, yesterday (October 23).
