Education Ministry says board of St. James High School has not been dissolved

The Education Ministry says the Board of St. James High School has not been dissolved.

This follows a statement from the Opposition People’s National Party acknowledging the dissolution of the Board and calling for the urgent appointment of an interim Board.

An Education Ministry statement explains that the National Council on Education (NCE) is fully committed to adhering to the necessary procedures in line with the regulations governing boards of educational institutions.

St. James High has been in the spotlight following a recent incident involving the Board Chairman and the Principal.

The dispute resulted in the school being closed earlier this week.

The Ministry says as part of its mandate, the NCE in collaboration with the Ministry, continues to work diligently with stakeholders at St. James High to address the ongoing issues at the school.

The Ministry says it understands the concerns surrounding the matter and is assuring the public that efforts are being made to reach an amicable solution that will benefit the school’s leadership, staff and most importantly, its students.

The Ministry and the NCE remain actively engaged in discussions with all relevant stakeholders and will provide updates on the resolution of the situation as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the PNP says the situation highlights the need for greater oversight in school board management.

It states that the previous tensions were exacerbated by the Ministry of Education’s failure to intervene early with mediation, allowing the issue to escalate unnecessarily.

The Opposition says the Ministry must take proactive steps to prevent similar conflicts in the future.
