Education ministry places focus on having disciplined school environment
Education minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon says focus is being placed on having disciplined school environments.
She says the vision for Jamaica will not be a reality if discipline is not instilled in children.
The issue of discipline in schools resurfaced this week as the new academic year got underway.
Since Monday, there have been reports of students at secondary level institutions being locked out of school for grooming breaches.
The education ministry said it’s investigating those reports.
Speaking at the 140th anniversary celebration of Shortwood Teachers’ College this morning, Dr. Morris Dixon indicated that principals and schools must be supported on the issue of discipline.
She lamented that the school environment has changed.
The education minister noted that there must be rules around how discipline is administered.
