Education Ministry closely monitoring developments following crash involving 39 students of Garvey Maceo High School

The Education Ministry says it is closely monitoring developments, following a motor vehicle accident involving 39 students of Garvey Maceo High School earlier today.

The Ministry says of the students assessed by medical personnel, 23 have been discharged, while three students have been admitted for further care and observation.

The remaining students are receiving medical attention, including fluids, and are awaiting further review by medical staff.

The Education Ministry says it has been in contact with the school administration and relevant authorities and will continue to monitor the situation closely.

It says support is being provided to ensure that students, parents, guardians and staff receive the necessary assistance during this time.

According to the Ministry, its educational social worker from region 7 in Clarendon was at the hospital to provide moral support and guidance to the students and their parents.

It says the regional team will continue to work with the school to support the affected and impacted as they heal from this difficult situation.

Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon says she is grateful that a number of students have been discharged, and she continues to pray for the full recovery of those who remain under medical care.

She notes that the Ministry will remain engaged with the school and health officials and will provide further updates as information is confirmed.

The Education Ministry is urging the public to rely on official updates, to respect the privacy of the students and their families at this time, and to pray for their fullest recovery.
