Education Ministry begins disbursement of graduate allowances to teachers

The Education Ministry has begun the disbursement of graduate allowances to teachers.

This follows concern expressed by upset educators about not getting the allowance and a warning from the Jamaica Teachers’ Association about possible industrial action.

The Ministry earlier noted that portfolio minister, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon immediately escalated the matter to Cabinet for resolution.

In an update last evening, the Ministry said as at yesterday, teachers in bursar-paid schools in regions 1, 3 and 4 received their graduate allowances.

It said payments for teachers in all other bursar-paid schools will be processed today.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Kasan Troupe said teachers at schools in Regions 1, 2 and 4, which the Central Ministry pays, will also receive their graduate allowances today.

She pointed out that the Ministry is on track to complete all payments by Friday, February 28.

She reaffirms the Government’s unwavering support for the teaching profession, adding that it remains dedicated to ensuring educators receive the benefits they deserve.
