Education Minister says literacy will be main focus for the 2025/2026 academic year
Education Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon says literacy will be the ministry’s main focus for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The school year begins today, with orientation and other administrative activities to be done in the island’s public institutions.
Schools will be closed on Tuesday September 2 and Election Day, Wednesday September 3.
On September 4 and 5, schools will resume orientation and administrative activities using teaching and learning modalities determined by school leadership, based on local circumstances.
The full resumption of all schools will be on Monday September 8.
During her back to school message Dr. Morris-Dixon said the government wants all of the island’s children to be confident readers and so, this will be the main area of focus.
She said the ministry will also be prioritising improved infrastructure and training.
Dr. Morris Dixon also noted that more Mathematics and English camps will take place.
She added that the Education Management Information System will be rolled out to tackle student absenteeism.
The Minister also pointed to nutrition and well-being for students as another area of focus.
