Education Minister, Fayval Williams has sought to assure that although 248 teachers have resigned, school administrators are finding qualified replacements.
Mrs. Williams, who was speaking at a back-to-school press conference this afternoon (September 1), said with many of the vacancies already filled, schools will be in a good position to be opened on Monday, for the new academic year.
She noted for example, that schools in Region Two have reported that 80 per cent of the vacancies have been filled with qualified teachers.
Mrs. Williams added that schools in Region Four have reported that 75 per cent of vacancies are filled and recruitment exercises are ongoing.
She said that come Monday, the resumption of school, like many years, will not be perfect, but steps have been taken to ensure a smooth operation.
