Education Minister awaiting formal report on events which led to disruption of operations at Seaview Gardens Primary yesterday

Education Minister, Fayval Williams says she is awaiting a formal report on events which led to a disruption of operations and classes at the Seaview Gardens Primary School in St. Andrew yesterday.

Students had to return home after protesting ancillary staff padlocked the institution’s gate.

The workers are reportedly upset over issues with their salaries.

IRIE FM news understands that workers have also highlighted alleged disagreements with the school’s principal as a sore point.

Speaking with IRIE FM news this morning, Mrs. Williams said the Ministry is aware of the matter and is working to address it.

She also noted that if legitimate workers are owed wages, every effort will be made to ensure they are paid.

In the meantime, Mrs. Williams described the disruption at the school as unfortunate.

She is urging persons with issues to follow the appropriate protocols to have them addressed.

Principal, Sangieanna Prince yesterday declined to comment on the matter, stating that she was in a meeting with regional directors.

When contacted by IRIE FM news this morning, she again refused to comment.
