Education Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon led a team to Ocho Rios High in St. Ann this morning, where classmates and teachers are mourning after a student was attacked on the school compound yesterday and later died.

The deceased is 16-year-old Devonie Shearer, a grade ten student of Buckfield, Ocho Rios.

The alleged attacker, a 17-year-old pupil, is in police custody.

Dr. Morris Dixon says everything will be done to assist the school over months of intervention.

The Education Minister described the incident as a tragedy.

In the meantime, Member of Parliament for northeast St. Ann, Mathew Samuda, welcomed the resources being made available to make schools safe.
