Eastern Westmoreland MP appeals for help for residents, following the passage of Hurricane Melissa
Member of Parliament for eastern Westmoreland Dr. Dayton Campbell, is appealing for help for residents, following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
He stated that the entire constituency was devastated by the hurricane, which made landfall in New Hope in White House.
Speaking on IRIE FM’s Africa Forum with Kabu Maat Kheru, the MP broke down as he spoke of conditions in the constituency. He described the area as a “total and complete disaster”.
According to him, about 1000 houses have been destroyed, and thousands more are without roofs.
He said Thatch Valley in Beeston Spring and sections of Amity are cut off and assistance is being sought for the residents.
Dr. Campbell is calling for food, water, medication and temporary shelter for the residents in eastern Westmoreland.
He is hopeful the Jamaica Defence Force will be able to drop supplies into the communities if there are challenges landing.
