East Portland MP to use her salary increase to assist vendors affected by Musgrave Market fire
Member of Parliament for East Portland Ann Marie Vaz says she will use her salary increase to assist vendors affected by this morning’s fire at the Musgrave Market.
At least two other buildings on west street in Port Antonio were also affected by the blaze.
In a statement this afternoon, Mrs. Vaz described the incident as a tragedy.
She has pledged to donate her first year of salary increase to the market vendors.
The MP said she will also be seeking support from the government and the private sector to get the vendors back on their feet.
Meantime, firefighters are still trying to ascertain the cause of the fire which gutted at least 3 buildings including the Musgrave Market on West Street in Port Antonio, Portland, this morning.
Public Relations Officer at the Jamaica Fire Brigade Emelio Ebanks told Irie FM News that 37 firefighters, 3 units and 4 trucks from the National Water Commission responded to the blaze which began shortly before 9 am.
